Six people, including a bank staff, were arrested for Indian Premier League (IPL) betting in Dehradun on Sunday. A team of Uttarakhand Police’s Special Task Force (STF) made the arrests.

The cops were getting regular information about online cricket betting taking place in the state capital. About half a dozen mobile phones, six basic phones, cash worth Rs 41 thousand, one TV set, and a register was recovered. Primary investigation reveals that the betting was conducted from New Delhi and a person named Kapil Bansal used to provide the link for online betting. The arrested persons used to conduct betting in Dehradun and make the collection.

Ankit, Mukul, Sandeep, Akash, Abhishek and Yash were arrested and the register recovered from them indicated that betting over Rs 50 lakh has taken place so far in the city. According to practice, adopted money was collected from the betting losers and winners were inspired to use the winning amount for future betting.

Deputy Inspector General (STF) Ridhim Aggarwal said, “The register recovered contains names involved in betting. We are doing further investigations of the names.”

All the arrested persons are young, in the age group of 20-30 years. It is assumed that the betting was conducted by the group for familiar people. The register recovered contains vital information and many big names are likely to pop up in cricket betting in Dehradun. Source The Statesman
