New Delhi: Union Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh addressed people on the 8th convocation ceremony of Indira Gandhi Agriculture University, Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and Chhattisgarh Cooperation Committee.

Union Government has made agriculture education practical and employable by implementing the recommendations of the 5th Dean Committee in the universities all across the country.

Changes are fast taking place in the farming methods with the development in technology.

While keeping in mind the new requirements and pace of time, Union Government has increased the agriculture education budget of 2016-17 by a record 40.5% in comparison to year 2013-14.

Chhattisgarh displays a unique combination of agriculture and cooperation in the country.

21st Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Chhattisgarh inaugurated today. More Krishi Vigyan Kendras will be established soon in the remaining 6 districts.

Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Union Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh said that farming methods are fast changing with the development of new technology. To utilize this technology, it is important to strengthen agriculture education. While keeping in mind the new requirements and the pace of time, the Union Government has increased the agriculture education budget from Rs.405 crores (2013-14) to Rs.570 crores which is a record increase of 40.5%. Agriculture minister said this on the 8th convocation ceremony of the Indira Gandhi Agriculture University located in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Agriculture Minister congratulated the graduating students and appreciated the achievements of the University and its students in the field of agriculture education. Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Shri Raman Singh, Governor & Chancellor of the University, Shri Balram Das Tondon and State Agriculture and Water Resources Minister, Shri Brijmohan Aggarwal were also present in the function. Agriculture Minister further said that agriculture education has been made practical and employable by implementing the recommendations of the 5th Dean Committee in the universities all across the country. During the year 2014-16, 10 new agricultural universities were opened in India. The budget of DARE/ ICAR has been increased by Rs.148.7 crores so that the council through its research institutes and All India Integrated projects can research smoothly in the fields of new varieties, agricultural techniques, new products and processing. He also informed that the budget of Krishi Vigyan Kendras has been increased by 41% in 2016-17 (Rs.745 crores) compared to 2013-14 (Rs.527 crores). Earlier to this program, Agriculture Minster Minister inaugurated the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Krishak Nagar, Raipur. On this occasion, Shri Singh said that K.V.K. portal has been launched this month all across the country to monitor and manage the Krishi Vigyan Kendras located in district headquarters and the regional offices have been expanded from 8 to 11. This is state’s 21st K.V.K. and more K.V.K.s will be established soon in the remaining 6 districts.

Today, Shri Singh also participated in a function organized by Chhattisgarh Sahkar Bharti. In this function, organized at Shaheed Smarak Bhawan, Raipur, he said that significant importance has been given to religion and karma in Indian culture. He said that agriculture and cooperation complement each other, if agriculture is karma then cooperation is dharma. He further said that Chhattisgarh displays a unique combination of agriculture and cooperation. Here, Paddy is purchased through PAXO at Minimum Support Price (MSP) to financially benefit the farmers. Cooperation has significant contribution in this work of Government.

Agriculture Minister said that Government has taken many steps to help the farmers. Loan facility at low interest rates is being provided to farmer so that he can buy seeds, manure, etc. yet he agreed that this was not sufficient. In reality, this assistance does not reach the farmer. He said that the country cannot progress until and unless the farmer is poor and uneducated. The farmer should be helped in every possible way to make him educated and self-dependent.

He informed that the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has dedicated a large portion of the country’s budget to the agriculture. Modi Government is making concerted efforts to bring the farmers forward in the field of animal husbandry, fruit and vegetable production, goat rearing, poultry farming, etc along with conventional farming. “We are trying to benefit each and every farmer”, he said.
