Two CRPF personnel were killed after stone-pelters allegedly caused a paramilitary vehicle to crash at Hiller Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday evening.
The incident took place around 6.50 pm, while CRPF personnel were withdrawing after law-and-order duty in the area.
“It is learnt that the driver was hit by a stone pelted by a miscreant, due to which he lost control of the vehicle. This resulted in the death of two CRPF jawans and injury to another. An FIR has been registered into the incident, and an investigation is on,” a police statement read.
PTI identified the two deceased CRPF jawans as Riyaz Ahmed Wani and Nissar Ahmed Wani. They were rushed to the hospital soon after the accident, where they were declared dead on arrival. Reinforcements have been rushed to the spot, officials said.
