Crime investigation Department (CID) is one step closer to arresting former BJP MLA Nalin Kotadiya in a Bitcoin extortion case in Gujarat. The entire embezzlement is worth Rs 12 crore (176 Bitcoins).
Kotadiya has been issued an arrest warrant by an Ahmedabad sessions court. Under the non-bailable warrant under section 70 of CrPC, CID is likely to arrest him anytime soon.
CID has been investigating the case for months now. Kotadiya has already been summoned twice by CID but he was not present before the department for either.
The department also searched for Kotadiya in cities like Surat, Amreli and Bhavnagar after Rs 25 lakh was recovered from a close aide of Kotadiya.
Kotadiya’s share in the extorted money was assumed to be Rs 75 lakh out of which 25 lakh in cash was recovered from his aide Nanku Ahir.
The mastermind in the case Kirit Paladiya, who is Kotadiya’s nephew, has already been arrested in a case that involves the kidnapping of Surat builder and businessman Shailesh Bhatt.
In an open letter, Nalin Kotadiya announced that the CID may approach him in the Bitcoin extortion case as it may lead to bigger fish being caught. By India today
