Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has awarded monetary compensation to a 6-year-old rape survivor’s family. The girl is currently being treated at a government hospital.
The girl was allegedly kidnapped by a eunuch on July 14 when she was playing near the Kali Mandir. She was found in a pool of blood at 11.30 pm. She was badly injured and was bleeding profusely. Her parents, who were frantically searching for her, rushed her to the hospital.
The girl was operated on for over 4 hours. She is in critical condition. She may take a long time to recover from the brutal assault. The family is very poor as her father is a rickshaw puller and her step-mother is a beggar.
DCW chief Swati Maliwal visited the girl in hospital. She said that the commission is releasing immediate monetary help for the girl and will take steps to ensure her rehabilitation. Further, the Commission will be filing an application in the Court for release of victim compensation.
“The child is in a very bad condition. I am horrified to meet her. This is one of the worst cases I have come across so far and the problem becomes even more grave considering that the girl is homeless,” said Maliwal.
Maliwal appealed to the public to help the family and said that anyone who is keen to help the rape survivor and her family can send an e-mail to livingpositive@gmail.com
She also appealed to PM Modi to implement provisions in the recently passed ordinance urgently and ensure that the guilty are given death penalty within 3 months. India Today
