As many as 17 migrant labourers have been rescued when a scaffolding of an under construction building collapsed at Kandanchavadi on OMR Road in Chennai.
Intial reports indicate that iron girders and scaffoldings of the construction came down on the labourers present in the construction site.
Of the 17 rescued, 5 people are treated for head injuries. District Collector of Kanchipuram, Ponnayain said, “We are told that 20 people usually work in this area. 17 have been rescued. We do not know if the remaining 3 are trapped inside. Rescue operations are underway to look for others who could be trapped”.
NDRF, along with state fire department personnel are undertaking the search and rescue operations. The incident took place at around 7 pm. The building is site of an under instruction hospital. India Today
