New Delhi: The First BRICS U-17 Football Tournament is being held in Goa during the month of October 2016. A Government of India initiative, this Tournament will be played amongst the five BRICS countries namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The dates of the Tournament have been coordinated to culminate with the Eighth Annual BRICS Summit also being held at Goa.
At an Impressive Ceremony held at Bambolim stadium, today, the Union Minister of State ( Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Vijay Goel launched the BRICS U-17 Football Tournament Logo. In his address he specially mentioned about this tournament being a precursor to the forthcoming FIFA U-17 Football World Cup being held in six cities across the Nation in Oct 2017. The tagline of the BRICS U-17 Football Logo is “India for Football’ which aptly symbolizes the impetus being given to the Game.The Minister shall be attending the Opening of the AFC Congress in Goa on 27th September 2016 and launch of the FIFA U-17 Football World Cup logo and emblem in Goa on the same day.
The BRICS tournament is scheduled to commence on 5th of October 2016 and will witness two matches every alternate day. About 250 Players and officials from 5 countries are expected to participate in 12 matches. The Final of the Tournament is scheduled to be held at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on 15th October 2016. The Tournament will culminate in a grand Closing Ceremony at Fatorda Stadium.The Tournament promises to be a legacy event, setting very high standards in technical proficiency and impeccable standards of service to be provided to players, officials and the spectators.
