Opportunities of Research

New Delhi: The Government has been emphasizing the need for promoting research that is socially relevant and is of use to the end users. For this purpose, two schemes, namely Impacting Research Innovation and Technology (IMPRINT) and Uchhatar Avishkar Yojana (UAY) have been launched. IMPRINT focuses research in higher educational institutions wherein the cost of the project is met to the extent of 50% by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the remaining 50% by the participating Ministry/Department. UAY promotes industry sponsored, outcome-oriented research projects. The project cost under UAY is met to the extent of 50% by the MHRD and 25% each by the Industry and the participating Ministry/Department.

University Grant Commission (UGC) provides financial assistance to selected candidates pursuing M.Phil./Ph.D. on regular basis in the field of Humanities, Social Science, Sciences and Engineering & Technology under the doctoral and post-doctoral schemes. Some of the fellowships granted under the doctoral fellowship scheme are Junior Research Fellowship in Science, Humanities and Social Sciences; Basic Science Research Fellowship; Swami Vivekananda for Single Girl Child fellowship for Research; Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for SC candidates; National Fellowship for Higher Education of ST Students; National Fellowship for Students of Other Backward Classes (OBC); Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students and National Fellowship for Students with Disabilities. The fellowships under Post-Doctoral Fellowships include Dr S. Radhakrishnan Post Doctoral Fellowship in Humanities; Dr D.S. Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship; Post Doctoral Fellowship for SC/ST; Post Doctoral Fellowship for Women. The Government is continuously striving to improve the quality of higher education in the country by legislative initiatives as well as through various schemes and programmes.
