New Delhi: Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav (SAKSHAM-2017) Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and Oil & Gas Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) are organising a Campaign to sensitize the masses about the conservation and efficient use of petroleum products towards achieving twin objectives of better health & environment and securing availability of Oil & Gas for future generations. The campaign is named as SAKSHAM 2017 (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav) in which a number of activities are being carried out based on the theme of the event.

This campaign is aimed at showing the way forward for enhancing Conservation capabilities of people and help understand need, issues & solutions for conservation and effective utilization of petroleum products and also to give message that collective participation is the key to Conservation.
The campaign was kick started on 16th January 2017 in a function inaugurated by, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble MoS (IC), P&NG at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan conveyed their message that 50 % of petroleum products are consumed in transport sector. He emphasized that pollution is increasing due to improper use of fuels. we have to create clean environment for healthy life and it is possible by participation of people.
On 16th January 2017, the campaign was started at Lucknow and inaugurated by Hon’ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh Sh. Ram Naik by administering the oath, to conserve oil and gas, to the gathering. On this occasion, more than 400 school children, oil & gas company officials from IOCL, BPCL, HPCL & GAIL, their dealers and distributors were present. The Chief Guest mentioned in his inaugural speech that there is need to save fuel, energy as import of crude oil is increasing. He told that use of CNG,PNG and ethanol blending in fuel may contribute in fuel saving. The chief guest also told that we may save fuel if practice small tips like car pooling, stopping engine at red light etc. During the Saksham-2017, Oil & Gas companies will do activities like Walkathon, Fuel Saving Concerts, Mega Driver Training workshop, Training program for LPG delivery boys, PUC check, Group talk for Girls, Group talk for Farmers, Quiz, Painting, Debate etc competitions for children.
Shri Avinash Verma, State Level Coordinator of Oil Companies and Executive Director, Indian Oil Corporation Limited said in his address that OGCF is now named as Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav ( ) which emphasizes more on theme of continual energy saving need. He informed that digital traffic timer at red signals may save up to 15 % fuel. He also told that PCRA and oil and gas companies have responsibilities of efficient use of energy as well as environment protection.
At the end of the programme, the chief guest also flagged-off a rally by school children.
