Shri Nitin Gadkari Inaugurates / Lays Foundation Stone For 5 Highways Projects Worth Rs 5632 Crore Around Allahabad

New Delhi: Shri Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation inaugurated / laid foundation stone for 137 km of highways projects worth Rs 5632 crore around  Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh today. Besides widening of national highways, this includes construction of a new, six-lane  bridge  over Ganga at Fafamau, Allahabad.

Speaking at Parade Ground in Allahabad Shri Gadkari said that his Ministry plans to build highways worth Rs 2 lakh crore in Uttar Pradesh before the government’s five year term ends next year. For this, he said, he would need the cooperation of the state government for acquiring land and getting environment clearance. He further said that the ongoing work to develop River Ganga  for navigation will improve the financial condition of farmers in the state. The Minister also appealed to students, NGOs and the people of the state to come forward and plant trees along the Ganga to protect the river and the environment, and said that he was raising funds from corporates and individuals for developing ghats along the river.

Shri Gadkari inaugurated a 41.34 km long section of NH 27 that was 4 laned at a cost of Rs 775 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for three projects that include 6 laning of 53.15 km Handiya- Aurai section of NH 2 at a cost of Rs 1813 crore; the 15 km, 4 lane Puramufti-Kaudihar Allahabad inner ring road Phase I that is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 830 crore and the 17.77 km section of NH 96 from Allahabad Bypass to Allahabad City at a cost of Rs 314 crore. In addition to these Shri Gadkari also attended the commencement of construction of a new, six lane bridge over River Ganga at Fafamau, Allahabad, that is to be built at a cost of Rs 1900 crore.
