Delhi Commission for Women Chief Swati Maliwal on February 13 kickstarted a movement called Rape Roko protesting the recurring occurrences of rape in the National Capital. Just a few days back an eight-month-old was brutally raped by her 28-year-old cousin.
Even as per the NCRB the highest number of crimes against women are committed in the National Capital. Previously the DCW led by Swati Maliwal had also gone on a Satyagraha Movement to protest the brutality on women. She said, ‘Everyday 2 children are being raped in our country, this is not just the rape of women, it is the rape of our country,’
She said, ‘What is even worse than the rapes and atrocities on women is our silence. I have been working at a stretch for 14 days, I have met the children who had been raped. Their screams don’t let me sleep, eat, and lead a normal life. yet, I don’t want to close my eyes, I want to fight the problem. Things will only change when my battle, my fight will become yours,’
She also demanded that more fast-track courts must be built, and anybody guilty of raping a minor should be granted death penalty within six months so that such brutality can be stopped in future.
She has also called for a protest against crimes on women on March 8. Until then she said that she would continue with her Satyagraha and wouldn’t go home until March 8. (OneIndia News)
