Dehradun: The 28th GST Council meeting was held under the chairmanship of Union Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal in New Delhi on Saturday. In the meeting Uttarakhand was represented by Finance Minister Mr. Prakash Pant. In this regard, the Cabinet Minister Mr. Prakash Pant said that in the meeting, one of the important decisions taken with respect to Uttarakhand is that in the past, registration on the turnover of up to Rs 10 lakh was compulsory, which has now been increased to Rs 20 lakhs. He said that decision has also been taken to amend the GST Act and a bill in this regard will be presented in the Lok Sabha. Keeping in view the interest of the six states including Uttarakhand, Pondicherry, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Bihar that were witnessing loss of revenue post GST, a committee headed by the Secretary level officer has been constituted, which will submit its report after conducting a study in this regard. He informed that the time limit for migration of GST registration has been increased to 31st August and the need for compulsory filing of monthly returns has now been amended and revised to three months. The traders with turnover of Rs 5 crores will get benefit from this. This will also benefit the businessmen of Uttarakhand and will also provide a positive solution to the loss in the state’s revenue.
