Dehradun: Kosi rejuvenation campaign could be expanded with public involvement. This was stated by Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat at a programme held at Government Primary School, Supakot on Saturday. He said that tree plantation in Kosi catchment area is a record which has been entered into by Limca Book of records. This is a matter of pride for everyone. Chief Minister also reviewed the works of Chal-Khal, Khanti and tanks in Kosi catchment area.
Chief Minister said that to maintain environmental cleanliness we have to pay special attention to cleanliness in Kosi catchment area and there is need for an awareness campaign. There is need to put check dams at the place of origin of Kosi river. He announced that at the next Harela festival to be celebrated in next July, a similar special tree plantation programme will be held in Dhar Pani Dhar area and those students who had planted maximum number of saplings would be honored along with holding other programmes on the occasion. Praising the work of Kosi rejuvenation done by Prof J.S Rawat, Chief Minister said that children should be taken to the areas where tree plantations have been done to make them familiar with the importance of trees and encourage them to plant trees. He also stressed on planting Banj, Baid and Jamun trees in Dhar Pani Dhar area.
Chief Minister said that Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Himalayan Environment and Development Institute is also working on water preservation and conservation and we have to seek their help in this endeavor. He said that Vivekanand Hill Agriculture Research Institute is also working to rejuvenate ‘Naulas’.
Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Jairam Thakur has praised the efforts to conserve rivers in Uttarakhand and extended the support of his government in whatever way possible in this regard.
On the occasion, District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria gave a power point presentation on Kosi rejuvenation plan. Prof. J.S. Rawat of NRDMS giving details about Kosi rejuvenation works said that tagging through GIS of all the works is being done and tree plantation in all the recharge zones and other works are being carried out. Praising the initiative of Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat, he said that we have to start similar campaigns for other rivers also on the lines of Kosi rejuvenation programme.
