CM Rawat calls for ‘One Country, One Election’

Dehradun: Calling for ‘One Country, One Election’, Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat has said that simultaneous elections of gram pardhans, Chhetra panchayat representatives, Block Pramukh, legislators and MPs will save money, energy and time. Expressing his happiness at large representation of females amongst the office-bearers of the students unions, Chief Minister said that women should come forward in every field.  He further said that women have to come strongly against injustice, exploitation, violence and social injustice.

Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat participated in a one day conference of elected representatives of students unions of colleges and universities at Chief Ministers’ on Saturday.

Congratulating the newly elected office-bearers of the students unions, Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that by holding student union elections in the entire state in a single day, Uttarakhand has set up an example in the country. “ This is an example to be emulated. Now we have to seriously deliberate on “One Country, One Election’ in the country,” he said.

Chief Minister called upon the office-bearers of the students unions to set a target of doing something good in their lives. They should pledge to work for environment protection, tree plantation, polythene free colleges campuses, removing illiteracy amongst illiterates and other creative social causes. “ We have set a goal to make Uttarakhand completely literate by 2019  and college students could play an important role in achieving the target,” he added.

 Specially congratulating the women office-bearers of the student unions, Chief Minister said that the state government has taken a number of initiatives to implement women empowerment on the ground and women are undertaking their responsibilities very seriously. The women have to come forward to fight against every kind of violence and exploitation, he said.

 On this occasion, Uttarakhand Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat said that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat has done solid work to bring in qualitative development in higher education. The Central government has given rs.300 crore to 55 degree colleges under RUSA-1 and RUSA-2. Three model colleges are being developed. Seventy six degree colleges will be shifted in their new buildings soon and hundred per cent recruitment of principals have been done. Book donation campaign is being launched in the state and provision of Rs 65 lakh from MLALAD fund has been made to buy books and furniture for school and colleges. He further said that the academic calendar of 180 days will be strictly followed in an academic year and examinations will be conducted by June 30 in the coming academic session. He said that it was our target that colleges should have 200 working days in an year and dress code has been implemented in 96 degree colleges. The Minister said that a target of 100 per cent voting in student union polls is fixed and online voting has also been initiated.    He announced that soon anti-drug campaign will be launched in the colleges. Additional Secretary Education Dr. Iqbal Ahmed and officers of education department were present on the occasion.
