CM Rawat calls for preserving bio-diversity

Dehradun: Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat stressing upon the need for collective efforts to conserve bio-diversity, said that while there is talk of global village but “Vasudev Kutumbakam’ has been the life philosophy of Indian culture.

He said that our great sages had considered the entire world as one family and we are connected to each other

 He said that the discussions by the scientists who had come from country and abroad to participate in the International Bio-Diversity Congress organized to conserve bio-diversity will be beneficial for us all.

Distributing certificates for the various research papers by different scientists on bio-diversity conservation and ecological preservation at the International Bio-Diversity Congress held at FRI on Saturday, Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that to consider nature as a friend has been the Indian tradition.

He said that our ‘Upnishads’ said  ईशावास्य मिदं सर्वं यत्किञ्च जगत्याँ जगत्….  which means that God is present in every natural thing and we should use these with a feeling of sacrifice.

 “ If we are using only for enjoyment then the balance between us and nature gets disturbed. Bio-diversity does not need us but we need bio-diversity,” he said.

He further said that following the tradition of conserving nature our forefathers not only conserved seeds but also sacrificed their lives to conserve those species. “ This was their deep philosophy to preserve bio-diversity and we have to carry it forward,” he said.

Chief Minister said that our ancestors have played a responsible role in preserving the biodiversity and ecosystem by remaining connected with the nature. We also get the message of connect with the nature since before breaking the Brahma Kamal, we perform a prayer that we are taking flowers for worship. Not only this, honey etc sweet things are kept at that place, so that there is no loss of biodiversity. Even after having such a sense of belonging for nature, we all have to think in order to overcome the crisis that nature is facing. Only by connecting ourselves with nature, we will be able to save it. He said that for the protection of biodiversity, the benefit of the brainstorming in this conference will definitely benefit the country and the world.

Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand is a prosperous state in terms of biodiversity. The blessed resources of  Himalayas is like a boon for us. These are somehow linked to our livelihood, culture and civilization in some form. It is our endeavour to improve the livelihood through investment in these areas and also to conserve them using proper resources. He said that Uttarakhand is the land of the Himalayas and origin of Ganga and Yamuna. Forest of pine, oak and rhododendron are here. All rare flower species including Brahma Kamal are present here. Various types of rare herbs are found in the Himalayan region. Hundreds of species of wild animals reached the brink of extinction are being protected in the Devbhoomi.
