Neglecting local heroes of Chitradurga such as Madakari Naika and Vanake Obavva, the Congress government is celebrating the birth anniversaries of sultans, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a massive BJP election rally in Chitradurga on Sunday.
Speaking at the science college grounds here, Modi began his speech in Kannada saying ‘Kote Nadina Janirige Namaskaragalu’ (My obeisance to the people of the fort city) and paid his respects to Madakari Naika, Vanake Obavva, Madara Channayya and Murugha Sharanaru.
The Prime Minister said that Challakere taluk in Chitradurga district is all set to be a centre for science and technology.
Centres of Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), Baba Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) are all set to operate in the envisaged Challakere sci-tech complex. He said that the Isro’s Chandrayan-2 project is underway in the district.
The PM appreciated the farmers of the district for slogging to produce yield despite suffering drought for nearly 70 years in a century, without a break.
The PM said that late Congress leader Nijalingappa was punished by the party because he questioned the Nehru model of economic development. Nijalingappa was a leader with great concern for poorer sections of society, he added. By DH
