A presentation on the topic “Promoting Gas Economy” was made during the meeting. The Members gave valuable inputs and suggestions to further promote the use of gas in the country. Chairing the meeting, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for M/o Petroleum & Natural Gas Sh. Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized that India is fast growing economy and macro-economic drivers indicate significant upside in consumption of natural gas and other primary energy forms. He said the Government is providing strong policy thrust for supporting consumption of natural gas and enabling infrastructure expansion to aid investment flows in this direction. He said the present share of gas in the energy mix of the country is 6.5% which the Government is trying to take up to 15% in a couple of years. He highlighted significant steps taken in this direction, like, setting up of National Gas Grid, Urja Ganga for eastern parts of the country, strengthening city gas distribution network and exploitation of unconventional resources.
