Dehradun: Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh held a meeting to check landslides in Balianala area of Nainital. Instructions were given that permanent solution to the problem should be found after consulting experts.
Secretary Disaster Management Amit Negi said that a nine member experts committee was formed for geo-scientific survey of the affected area. The committee besides having members of the state disaster management had experts from Japan, geographical Survey of India, Remote Sensing, geologists and engineers of PWD and irrigation departments. The committee had recommended holding of topographical survey, constructing security structure and water clearance on the surface.
Discussions were held with experts on their recommendations. It was decided that experts from Wadia Institute of Himalayan geology, Forest Research Institute, Indian Institute of Technology and chief engineers of irrigation and PWD departments will study and give their report. The meeting also discussed the suggestions given by Japanese experts from JAIKA to treat the area. It was decided that considering both the options simultaneously treatment work should be started soon.
Principal Secretary Anand Vardhan, Additional Secretary Disaster Management Saveen Bansal experts from various organizations, senior scientist Neetu Chauhan of GSI, Deputy Project Director of JAIKA Neelima Luxmi, Chief Engineer Jai Kumar Sharma, expert Takashi Hara and other experts were present in the meeting.
