New Delhi: The Defence Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman visited Headquarters of Western Command at Chandimandir Military Station today, where she was briefed on the operational preparedness, administrative issues and Ex-Servicemen affairs by General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Command Lt Gen Surinder Singh. The Defence Minister appreciated the efforts of the Indian Army and Western Command and expressed her complete confidence in the immense operational might of Western Command. She lauded Western Command’s contribution in all spheres including assistance to civilian administration especially during the recent past.
Paying homage to the brave martyrs and to commemorate the visit, Smt Sitharaman laid a wreath at Veer Smriti and also planted a sapling. The Defence Minister spent some time interacting with Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and Other Ranks (ORs) of units billeted at Chandigarh.
