New Delhi: The Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Vijay Goel said in the Lok Sabha today that with a view to providing financial security, the Ministry provides pension to former Indian international medal winning sportspersons, who have retired from active sports and attained the age of 30 years under the ‘Scheme of Sports fund for Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons’.
In a written reply he said, beside provides financial assistance to the outstanding sportspersons of the past, living in indigent circumstances, who had brought glory to the country in sports, under the ‘Scheme of National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons’. All benefits under these schemes are equally applicable to the sportsperson subject to fulfilment of eligibility criteria prescribed in the scheme.
All welfare schemes of the Government for sportspersons are regularly reviewed keeping in view of changing circumstances including rising inflation, etc. However, presently, there is no proposal under consideration to revised and enhance the quantum of any financial assistance and pensions for sportspersons.
