Nottingham: A century by ‘Hitman’ Rohit Sharma (137 runs) powered India to an eight-wicket win over England in the first ODI at Trent Bridge here on Thursday.
With Kuldeep Yadav(6-25) doing a good job to restrict England to 268 earlier, the Men in Blue got off to a flying start with Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan putting up a 59-run stand before the latter got out for 40.
However, in came captain Kohli (75 runs), who would go onto put a 167-run partnership with Rohit, who got to his 18 th ODI ton, his second consecutive in any format.
In the 33rd over, the hosts got some consolation as Kohli was stumped by Jos Buttler courtesy an Adil Rashid wicket. However, Rohit and KL Rahul (9 runs) took the Men in Blue to a comfortable victory with 59 balls to spare. DC
