Voting in the second and final phase of Gujarat assembly elections has ended and poll predictions for the state and Himachal Pradesh have started coming in.
Almost every pollster has predicted that the BJP is likely to retain Gujarat, but with a reduced number of seats. According to Republic-C Voter exit polls, the BJP is likely to get 108 seats, whereas Times Now-VMR Exit Poll data says BJP will get 109 seats out of a total of 182 seats.
The Congress will give the BJP a fight in Gujarat. While the Times Now-VMR exit poll gives Rahul Gandhi’s party 70 seats, Republic-C-Voter predicts it will get 74 seats.
The Republic-C-Voter data shows a close fight between BJP and Congress in terms of vote share. While the BJP will receive 47.4 per cent vote share, Congress is expected to be close behind with 43.3 per cent vote share.
The C-Voter data also gives a comparative analysis of region wise breakup of seat share in Gujarat in 2012 and 2017. The BJP will lose highest number of seats – about 7 – in South Gujarat. Congress is shown to be gaining in almost every region of Gujarat, according to Republic-C-Voter exit poll.
In case of Himachal Pradesh, every pollster is predicting a BJP win. The India Today-Axis poll has given BJP 47-55 seats out of a total of 68. The ruling Congress is expected to slump to anywhere between 13-20 seats, it says.
Today’s Chanakya, another prominent pollster, has predicted 55 seats for the BJP in Himachal Pradesh and 13 for Congress.
