New Delhi: On 29-06-2018, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India met and interacted with a group of over 140 sugarcane farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Punjab. The Prime Minister announced that the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane for the sugar season 2018-19 will be announced and the FRP will also be higher than the FRP for season 2017-18. The Prime Minister also apprised the farmers about the various decisions taken to liquidate the arrears of sugarcane farmers.
The government has recently announced FRP for 2018-19 sugar season at Rs 275/ qtl at 10% recovery, which is 2.45% higher than the FRP for current sugar season 2017-18. Also, as a result of various measures taken by Government recently, the cane price arrears on SAP basis for the country, which were peaked at Rs. 23,232 cr in the last week of May, 2018, have come down to Rs. 16,600 cr; on FRP basis it has come down to Rs 8153 Cr from peak value of Rs 14538 cr.
