Former United States First Lady Barbara Bush died on Tuesday at the age of 92, family spokesperson Jim McGrath said. Bush, the wife of the country’s 41st president, George HW Bush, was in failing health and had sought comfort care instead of medical treatment.

CNN had reported on Monday that Barbara Bush suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease andcongestive heart failure.
“Our souls are settled because we know hers was,” her son and former President George Bush said in a statement after his mother’s death, The Guardian reported. He said she was “a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love, and literacy to millions”. George Bush served as the US president from 2001 to 2009, while another son, Jeb Bush, is a former Florida governor.
George HW Bush’s Chief of Staff Jean Becker said Barbara Bush died with the former president, her husband of 73 years, by her side.
Current US President Donald Trump said he and his wife Melania would join the country in celebrating the life of Barbara Bush. Former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton also offered their condolences.
