Uncategorized

At least four militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Rafiabad forests of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.

Reports said the encounter broke out after a joint team of army’s 32 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 9-PARA commandos launched a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) in the dense woods of upper reaches of Rafiabad, Baramulla, 70 kms from here, during wee hours of Wednesday.

A police officer said in the initial firing incident one PARA commando was injured, who was shifted to army’s 92-base hospital in Srinagar. “Four militants were killed in the retaliatory action of security forces while one ultra is still believed to be hiding in the area,” he said and added the search operation was going on in the area.

Earlier state police chief Shesh Pal Vaid tweeted: “Encounter going on in Dooniwari forest area of Police Station Dangiwacha Sopore, report of the presence of 5 militants. Wish success to our boys (sic).”

The encounter comes a day after four army soldiers, including a Major, and two militants were killed in a gunfight along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday.
