‘Freedom 251’ maker Mohit Goel arrested by Delhi police

Uncategorized

Mohit Goel, the founder of Ringing Bells that offered ‘Freedom 251’ has been arrested by the Delhi Police. According to a tweet by ANI, few others have also been arrested along with Goel.

In another post, the agency asserted that the police have arrested three people of a gang who were allegedly trying to extort money in lieu of settling a rape case. Mohit Goel is amongst one of the 3 people who have been arrested.

Goel and his company made headlines last year with the “Freedom” smartphone, which was priced at 251 rupees ($3.77), attracting strong demand but also widespread scepticism and scrutiny from regulators even in price-conscious India, where cheap smartphones are big sellers.

The firm had claimed that around 30,000 customers had booked the phone despite some glitch and seven crore people registered for it. Goel, the Director of Noida-based company Ringing Bells had announced Freedom 251 smartphones at an astonishingly low price of Rs 251 apiece.

Last year in February, he was detained in Ghaziabad on allegations of fraud. Goel was arrested on February 23 after an FIR was filed by Ghaziabad-based Ayam Enterprises, alleging that Ringing Bells defrauded it of Rs 16 lakh.

Police had registered an FIR against Goel and four other directors on February 22 under Indian Penal Code’s Sections 467 (forgery of valuable security, will), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 120b (criminal conspiracy). source: oneindia
