‘Give MPs, MLAs standing welcome’: Haryana issues rules for government officers, say reports

Uncategorized

The Haryana government has warned its officials of action if they are not courteous with MPs and MLAs, PTI reported on Tuesday. Bureaucrats should stand up to welcome the legislators when they visit their offices, and see them off too, a circular issued to the officials said.

An officer should be “meticulously correct and courteous” to visiting MPs and MLAs, reads the circular, issued by the state’s chief secretary last month. Central and state government officers should make arrangements to receive the legislators when they visit them with an appointment, the circular said.

When a government office organises a public function, the MP or the MLA of the area should invariably be invited, it said further, adding that they should have proper and comfortable seating arrangement.

Bureaucrats should also listen to the elected representatives carefully, according to the instructions. “Government servants should show courtesy and consideration to MPs and MLAs and listen patiently to and consider carefully what MPs and MLAs may have to say,” said the circular.┬аPublic servants who do not comply with the instructions may face action after an inquiry, the circular said. source┬а┬аScroll
