Government employees met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Lucknow on Tuesday over the Centre order asking all its departments and the state governments to implement reservation in promotion of employees belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories following a Supreme Court order.
Shailendra Dubey, president of the Savrajan Hitay Sanghrakshan Samiti told India Today, “We met Rajnath and told him that the Centre order of implementing reservation in promotion to SC/ST is contrary to what the Supreme Court said on June 5. If this order is implemented, then we are going to revolt. The HM has assured us that our views will also be considered.”
Another government employee Reena Tiwari posted in the basic education department said that the reservation in the promotion is unfair.
“It will not be acceptable to us if it is implemented in Uttar Pradesh. We have demanded cancellation of the Centre’s order regarding reservation in promotion from Mr Singh,” Reena Tiwari said.
Meanwhile another group under the banner of Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti met the Home Minister in favour of reservation in promotion.
The president of the organisation Awadhesh Verma said that a larger group is conspiring against the order .
“We have appealed him to HM to get a bill passed in the Parliament for implementing reservation in promotion to SC/ST,” Verma said.
The Yogi Adityanath government so far has not given any statement over the issue of reservation in promotion to SC/ST employees.
The Opposition has hit out at the state government for keeping mum over this matter.
Samajwadi Party spokesperson Sunil Sajan said, “The order has already been issued by the Centre and the state government must immediately clarify when this order is going to be implemented here.”
UP Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi told India Today that the state government is already going through the order before implementation.
“There are certain formalities and procedures that are required to implement any order. We are working on it and the government will also seek legal opinion,” said Tripathi.
Dalit Mahasabha leader and Uttar Pradesh Scheduled Caste Finance and Development Corporation chairman Lalji Nirmal also hailed the Centre over reservation in promotion.
“I would like to congratulate PM Modi and his government for fighting for welfare of SC/ST. Now the Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav must clear his stand over this issue. The state government will soon be implementing the order and I am sure general category will have no problem with it,” said Nirmal.┬аIndia Today
