Two hashtags – #MaduraiThanksModi and #GoBackModi – were trending on Twitter on Saturday on the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu.
With Twitter turning into a new platform for political parties to fight their ideological battles, BJP cadre were trending #MaduraiThanksModi – an apparent reference to the party-led government’s decision to construct AIIMS in Madurai, foundation for which will be laid by the Prime Minister on Sunday.
But, late in the evening, the #GoBackModi hashtag, which trended worldwide in April 2018 when Modi visited Chennai, was also trending across India. It has become a practice for the BJP to trend a hashtag for welcoming Modi and other outfits to trend another hashtag opposing his visit.
While #MaduraiThanksModi was trending with 1.9 lakh tweets at 8.30 pm on Saturday, #GoBackModi was also trending with 25,300 tweets. The hashtag welcoming Modi was trended by several handles associated with the BJP, including that of BJP general secretary P Muralidhar Rao and Tamil Nadu BJP chief Tamilisai Soundararajan. Source DH
