A teenage girl was shot before being burnt to death allegedly by her father and other relatives in a case of honour killing in Rajasthan’s Dholpur.

Police on Saturday said they have arrested father of the victim Banay Singh, her uncle Uday Singh and aunt Geeta Devi over the incident that took place in Raghuvir Pura village on December 10. Roles of victim’s grandfather Basanta Singh and three more relatives are also under police scanner.

The family was against her love affair with one of her classmates, police said. Father of the 17-year-old girl shot her with a country made 315 bore rifle and then dragged her to a nearby crematorium where she was set ablaze.

Four other members of the family are also suspected to be involved in the killing. Victim’s mother was out in the field when the gruesome incident took place.

Father and uncle of the victim were sent to police remand till December 18, while the aunt was forwarded to judicial custody.

Station House officer of Sar Mathura police Puran Mal Yadav said the girl had eloped with her boyfriend, who is also from the same caste as that of the victim. But her father, who disapproved the relation, had traced her and brought her back to the village.

The victim was a student of a private school in Sar Mathura.

The accused Banay Singh and his father Basanta have criminal records, police sources said.
