Israel has reached out to India for a new recruitment drive, seeking 10,000 construction workers and 5,000 caregivers to address skill shortages in its infrastructure and healthcare sectors. This request follows a similar one made earlier this year.
The Population, Immigration, and Border Authority (PIBA) has outlined the need for workers in four specific job roles: Framework, Iron Bending, Plastering, and Ceramic Tiling. PIBA’s team of assessors will visit India next week to conduct skill tests and select candidates who meet their criteria. The second phase of recruitment for construction workers will be conducted in Maharashtra.
Additionally, Israel requires 5,000 caregivers to enhance its healthcare services. Eligible candidates must have completed at least the 10th grade, possess a certificate from a recognized Indian institution, and have completed a caregiving course with at least 990 hours of on-the-job training.
In the first round of construction worker recruitment, 16,832 candidates appeared for skill tests, with 10,349 being selected. Chosen candidates are earning a salary of ₹1.92 lakh per month, along with medical insurance, food, and accommodation. They will also receive a monthly bonus of ₹16,515.
Following the government-to-government (G2G) agreement signed in November 2023, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has contacted all states to facilitate recruitment. The initial recruitment drive was held in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Telangana.
The agreement between India and Israel was established after signing a Framework Agreement on the Temporary Employment of Indians in May 2023. Candidates going through the G2G pathway are required to undergo pre-departure orientation training, which includes a manual to familiarize them with Israeli culture, lifestyle, and their new environment.
This international recruitment effort aligns with the Indian government’s vision of making India the Skill Capital of the world. Through this initiative, NSDC aims to build a pool of skilled individuals, provide necessary training, issue technical advisories for the Global South, and foster knowledge exchange and capacity building with international partners.
