KOLKATA: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday went a step ahead and accused the Centre of allowing infiltration into Bengal in a planned manner to foment riots.
“Central forces like the SSB and BSF are manning the borders. How are they allowing people to come in ? After opening the borders, they (read the Centre) are using outsiders in a pre-planned manner to foment riots. And then, they are conspiring to ask the state government for an explanation. Despite all these scheming, we have managed to maintain peace among the people,” the chief minister told a rally at Nandakumar in East Midnapore district on Monday. The chief minister is visiting the district and today was the first day of her visit.
Even though the chief minister did not refer to the recent incidents at Baduria in North 24-Parganas district which created communal tension, it is certain that Baduria incidents were in her mind when she came down heavily on the Centre for allowing infiltration in the state.
“Both the central and state governments are elected by the people. Then why is the central government conspiring against a state government? Why are they spreading lies against a state? I want an answer to this,” the chief minister said.
Mamata also claimed that the state government was not getting any co-operation from the Centre in handling effectively some untoward incidents. “I am very sorry to say that there has been non- cooperation from them (Centre). Despite the court order, no CRPF jawans has been deployed in Darjeeling,” she added.
The chief minister also blamed the Centre to create division among the people. “We (West Bengal) do not want to create division among people. But Delhi is doing this to put the state government in trouble,” she added.
At the same time, the Chief Minister warned that it would not be very easy for the BJP and their government in Delhi to play divisive politics in Bengal. “Playing divisive politics in West Bengal will not be an easy task because people of the state have been maintaining communal harmony for decades and would thwart any move by any political party to establish their supremacy by encouraging divisive politics,” she warned.
