Medicinal and Aromatic to enhance farmers’ income: Experts

A three day (5-7 Dec, 2017) training programme on cultivation and processing of aromatic and medicinal plants was inaugurated today at CSIR-CIMAP in which 80 participants from 14 states of India are participating. Organized under the CSIR Aroma Mission, the programme was inaugurated by the additional secretary, MSME, Govt. of India Shri Ram Mohan Mishra, IAS. Speaking in the inaugural function Shri Mishra said that medicinal and aromatic plants are capable of raising the farmers’ income besides ensuring the sustainable supply of authentic raw material required by the ayurvedic drugs and perfumery and cosmetics industries. He asked the participants to adopt CSIR-CIMAP’s technologies for better yield of the raw material and higher profit per unit area.

Prof. A. K.  Tripathi, Director, CSIR-CIMAP in his address told about the contribution of CSIR-CIMAP in the area of production of various medicinal and aromatic plants including mints, lemongrass, palmarosa, rose, geranium, satavar, artemisia etc. Prof. Tripathi further said that several of these plants suit for cultivation under adverse climatic conditions and in degraded lands which are not fit for traditional crops. Under the technical session of the programme scientists of CSIR-CIMAP including Dr. Alok Kalra, Dr. R. K. Srivastava, Dr. Saudan Singh, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. R.S. Sharma and consultant Dr. VKS Tomar delivered the lectures on various economically important crops.
