New Delhi: As per National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 34,449, 34,505 and 36,022 cases registered under Sexual Abuse/Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively for crime against children accounting 0.2% in 2015 over 2014 and 4.4% in 2016 over 2015.
Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) (JJ) Act 2015 is the primary law to protect the interest of children in need of care and protection and in conflict with law. Integrated Child Protection Scheme(ICPS) now тАЬChild Protection ServicesтАЭ under Integrated Child Development Services, is implemented with aim to create a safety net of dedicated structures, services and personnel for protection of children in need of care and protection as well as reduction of vulnerabilities to situations and actions that lead to abuse, exploitation and separation of children from their families. Under the scheme тАЬChild Protection ServicesтАЭ financial assistance is provided to the States/UTs on sharing pattern for, inter-alia, undertaking a situational analysis of children in difficult circumstances, for setting up and maintenance of various types of Child Care Institutions (CCIs). Under the scheme institutional care is provided through CCIs, as a rehabilitative measure. In these CCIs, children are provided age appropriate education either within the institution or outside in a formal education system through convergence with other schemes and programs of the Government or civil society. Under the non-institutional care component, support is extended for adoption, foster care and sponsorship.
