NDMA training programme for CBRN emergencies concludes

New Delhi: A training programme on CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) emergencies conducted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) successfully concluded here today. The training programme aimed at improving the preparedness of Parliament House Complex (PHC) security staff to respond to threats emerging from the use of CBRN material.

The five-day training programme, which began on October 23, 2017, trained a batch of 40 security personnel of PHC on various aspects of CBRN emergencies.

Member, NDMA, Shri R. K. Jain said CBRN emergencies have become a reality in today’s world. It is important to prepare our security personnel to deal with such exigencies effectively.

Underlining the need for CBRN training, Dr. D. N. Sharma, Member, NDMA, said that advance planning, preparedness and an effective response strategy will equip us to deal with such eventualities holistically.

The programme consisted of lectures, live demonstrations of detection and decontamination as well as use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The participants were also trained on Basic life support, triage and casualty carrying techniques.

Participants were also given hands-on training by way of a mock drill in a simulated CBRN scenario by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at its 8th Battalion base in Ghaziabad. Working of a HazMat (Hazardous Material) vehicle was also demonstrated to the participants at the Delhi Fire Services Training Centre at Rohini in Delhi.

This is the 18th in a series of training programmes conducted by NDMA for security personnel over the years. So far, more than 800 security staff have been trained to handle CBRN emergencies.
