Overconfidence caused defeat in Gorakhpur, Phulpur bypolls: Yogi Adityanath

Uncategorized

In an exclusive interview with Aaj Tak, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath broke his silence on the recent defeat in the Gorakhpur and Phulpur bypolls.

He attributed the loss to over confidence and also said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will learn from these mistakes.

“Whenever you are over confident about something these situations arise, but this is a lesson. In the coming days we shall learn from these mistakes and improve,” said Yogi Adityanath while speaking to Aaj Tak on its relaunched flagship show ‘Seedhi Baat’. Yogi said that he even spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.

“Yes, I have spoken to them; the Prime Minister and the party president have expressed their thoughts on the roadmap for the development of Uttar Pradesh and its people. We have focused on those areas and are moving in that direction,” said Yogi.

Following the results of the bypolls, several BJP leaders attributed the defeat to the low voter turnout and last-minute ‘understanding’ between Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party.

When asked about SP-BSP’s alliance and its prospects in UP, Yogi said that the parties were unable to decide if it is a coalition of compromise.

“Is it a coalition or a compromise for power, first let them decide who will lead them. They must decide, will it be Akhilesh yadav or Mulayam Yadav, or Mayawati or maybe Rahul Gandhi if the Congress joins this coalition,” said Yogi.
