Department of Posts has an old traditional relationship with dealing in letters and parcels. With the increasing trend of e-commerce, the parcel business is growing rapidly. In such a situation, the Department of Posts has added many new avenues by marking the parcel as a separate product. This statement was given by Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, Postmaster General, Varanasi Region while inaugurating the parcel packaging units in Varanasi at Head Post Office, Visheshwarganj and Cantt Head Post Office for packing of parcels in order to ensure safe transportation of parcels. For this, boxes of sizes 1, 2, 5 and 15 kg have been made available, whose price is fixed at Rs 30, 45, 75 and 150 respectively. This price also includes the service charge of the packing.
Postmaster General, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that many innovations have been made in the new parcel packaging policy of the Department of Posts. Now customers do not need to pack the parcel from home to get the parcel booked from the Post offices. Customers will only have to bring the parcel to Head Post Office, where it will be packed securely in a safe parcel box by the postal officials at the Parcel Packaging Unit. The parcels will be sealed packed in different sizes as well as BOPP tapes will be applied on them so that the items inside the parcel are not damaged at the time of dispatch and delivery. Bubble wrap, air bags or boxes will also be used for additional packing of the parcel which will keep it safe till it reaches the destination. All customers will be able to get their parcels packed by paying the prescribed fee. Packed parcels will be sent to the destination through Speed Post, Business Parcel or Registered Parcel Service. As per new packaging policy of the department, now there has been also a ban on sending the parcel by packing it in clothes.
Postmaster General, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav informed that in this sequence of innovation in parcel services, in the coming days, facility of return pickup of parcels, OTP based delivery, booking and delivery of parcels through smart machines will also be provided. Postal charges for booking cash-on-delivery items and insured items have been significantly reduced for bulk customers.
