Hyderabad: At least six people were killed and five hospitalised in serious condition due to a poisonous gas leak in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur on Thursday. The leak is said to have occurred at Gerdau Steel India Limited, a steel plant in Tadepatri division of Anantapur district.
According to Tadipatri rural sub-inspector Ramakrishna Reddy, the accident happened around 5.30 pm at the Gerdau Steel India Limited on the outskirts of the town, said reports. The five injured have been admitted to a local hospital and the condition of two of them is said to be critical.
The steel mill belongs to Brazilian firm Gerdau, a leading producer of long steel in the American sub-continent. Gerdau is a leading producer of long steel in the USA and one of the largest suppliers of special steel in the world. It has industrial operations in 14 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Gerdau’s Indian steel plant is situated at Tadipatri, Andhra Pradesh and has an installed capacity of 3 lakh tons of steel production per year. with PTI inputs
