New Delhi: Samajik Adhikarita Camp organized, at Vadodara, Gujarat today by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities [Divyangjan], Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is one of the biggest camps for distribution of Aids and Assistive devices to Persons with Disabilities. This camp was held at Navlakhi Maidan in Vadodara, where Aids and Assistive Devices were distributed under ADIP scheme to Divyangjans in the august presence of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
The Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, The Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Ashok Gajapati Raju, the Governor of Gujarat Shri O.P. Kohli, the Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Vijay Rupani, the Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Nitin Patel, the Speaker of Gujarat State Assembly Shri Ramanlal Vora, the Ministers of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Ramdas Athwale, Shri Krishna Pal Gurjar, Shri Vijay Sampla, the Minister of Gujarat for Social Justice and Empowerment , Women and Child Development Shri Atmaram Parmar, the Member of Parliament Smt. Ranjanben Bhatt and Shri Ransinh Rathwa and other state dignitaries also graced the occasion.
In the august presence of the Prime Minister, 3 Guinness World Records were created successfully in the mega ADIP Camp held at Navsari, Gujarat on 17thSeptember 2016. The Certificates for these three Guinness World Records created were presented to the Prime Minister by the team of Guinness Book of World Records during the event at Vadodara camp today.
While addressing the large gathering during the programme, the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi applauded the efforts made by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the way ministry has implemented the schemes for Divyangjans. He added that he gives priority to functions organized for the Divyangjans. It is a combined responsibility of the government and society to serve the Divyangjans and by participating in such programs he wants to create awareness in the society. While explaining Accessible India Campaign he emphasized on the need of making it a mass movement. He added that government is endeavouring to benefit the beneficiaries directly. Today the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is in the front row of Government of India. Fourteen thousand five hundred backlog vacancies of Divyangjans have been filled. Government established ISLRTC under this Department for developing a common sign language across the country. Various schemes have been launched which are paving the road for developing India. The Prime Minister said that the Government is committed towards the empowerment of Divyangjans and assured for constant efforts to bring them in the mainstream of the Society.
The Chief Minister of Gujrat Shri Vijay Rupani appraised Government of India for bearing social responsibilities effectively. He said serving to Divyangjans and empowering them is a noble work. Shri Rupani told the public about various schemes of Gujarat Government for welfare of Divyangjans and pledged for constantly making such efforts.
Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot thanked the Prime Minister for participating in Department’s event fourth time. He told about various schemes of the Department like Scholarship schemes, efforts for modernization of Aids and Assistive Devices, Cochlear Implant. He pointed out that Divyangjans are integral part of our human resource and the Government is committed for their holistic development. He mentioned about Para-Olympic winners and said Divyangjans are in no way less than others and appealed them for keeping their moral high.
In this Mega ADIP Camp at Vadodara, more than Ten Thousand Pre-Identified Divyangjan beneficiaries were benefitted with contemporary Aids and Assistive devices by ALIMCO, National Trust, National Handicapped Finance Development Corporation (NHFDC) and National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities(NIEPID).The Aids and Assistive devices and other facilities amounting to about Rs. 9.26 Crore were distributed to 10578 beneficiaries in this camp. These aids and assistive devices include high-end devices aimed at imparting education, training and information technology for the needy Divyangjans. This camp was held under the ADIP Scheme of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The main objective of the scheme is to provide latest and modern aids assistive devices to Divyangjans. These aids and assistive devices are being given to the Divyangjans to promote their physical, social and psychological rehabilitation and economic empowerment.
In the camp 300 beneficiaries of the National Trust were also felicitated with e-cards under Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme in which insurance of Rs. 1.0 lakh is given for the welfare of Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities, Disha and Vikas Day Care Centres schemes. While Disha is a day care Centre for early intervention and school readiness for children upto the age of 10 years, Vikas is an inter-personal skill development above 10 years of age and adults. The National Trust schemes improve the quality of life of persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities.
Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation [ALIMCO], a Government of India Central Public Sector Undertaking, working under the department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities [Divyangjan]. ALIMCO has conducted need assessment camps of divyangjan residing in Vadodara district with the focus to cover maximum population of divyangjan especially from remote rural areas. The assessments were conducted with the help of District Administration, Vadodara and Chota Udaipur districts in four phases spanning from 11th March to 16th Oct, 2016.
During the event some of the beneficiaries were given certificates of training and loans by NHFDC. Laptops were also provided to Divyangjans by NIEPID, Secunderabad. The aids and assistive devices distributed by ALIMCO and NIEPID under ADIP scheme in the camp include 50 Motorized Tricycles, 2305 Tricycle, 1185 Wheelchairs, 2064 Crutches, 1141 Walking Stick, 275 Braille Cane, 1448 TLM Kit, 65 Cerebral Palsy chair, 109 Braille Slate, 258 Braille Kit, 180 Rollator (Adult and Child), 228 ADL Kit Leprosy, 394 Samrtphone, 147 Daisy Player for Visual Impaired people, 2461 Hearing Aid – BTE Digital Programme, 1976 Artificial Limbs and Orthotics.
Dr. Vinod Aggarwal, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Government of India, Dr. J N Singh, Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat, Shri C.K Kaitan, Joint Secretary & CEO, National Trust, Shri Avanish K. Awasthi, Joint Secretary, DEPwD, Shri D. R Sarin, CMD, ALIMCO and officers from DEPwD, Autonomus Bodies and Corporations under the Department were also present at the event besides senior District Administration officials.
