Prosecution became directionless: judge

Uncategorized

The court on Thursday found that the CBI prosecution started its case with great enthusiasm and vigour, but the quality of its work deteriorated by the end, becoming “directionless and diffident”.

Senior advocate Anand Grover, appointed as a special public prosecutor by the apex court on September 2, 2014, also received flak.

Special Judge O P Saini termed Grover’s stand on filing written submissions “highly unfair”.

“The most painful part is that the special public prosecutor was not ready to sign the written submissions filed by him,” he pointed out.

The court had to issue written orders to make him sign the documents, the judge said.

The trial court also found that the public prosecutor and CBI inspector pursuing the case were moving in “two different directions without any coordination”.

The apex court had appointed Grover as a special public prosecutor after the then senior advocate U U Lalit, who act in the same capacity, was elevated as a Supreme Court judge.
