New Delhi: A Japanese delegation led by Secretary General of Liberal Democratic Party, Mr. Toshihiro Nikai met the Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh here today.
During the meeting, Shri Rajnath Singh recalled that he had visited Japan for the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai last year. He also recollected that in January 2014, Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Shinzo Abe paid an official visit to India and also graced the Republic Day celebrations as a Chief Guest.
The two sides discussed the bilateral relations and cooperation in the areas of disaster prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery; and reconstruction and rehabilitation. The Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh also expressed happiness over India’s announcement of “visa on arrival” scheme including for business travellers launched on March 1, 2016 and expressed hope that this will increase business interactions between the two countries.
The two countries also discussed the issues related to threat of terrorism and agreed that this issue is of serious concern to all of us. The Home Minister said that India joins Japan in its war against terrorism. He urged that there is a need for closer cooperation in counter-terrorism in an increasingly challenging security environment.
