The benchmark BSE Sensex hit 35,000 for the first time as IT stocks such as Infosys and private lenders such as ICICI Bank rallied amid broader value buying in the market.
Meanwhile, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty reached a new high of 10,760.70 in late afternoon trade.
The rupee was also higher at 63.93 against the US dollar in recent trade. The rupee had closed at 64.03 against the US currency on Tuesday.
