New Delhi: Minister for Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu today visited the family of the deceased e-rickshaw driver Shri Ravindra Kumar who was beaten to death in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area on Saturday after he stopped two people from urinating in public. The Minister gave a cheque of Rs 50,000 in his personal capacity to the family of the driver as a temporary relief. After speaking with Lieutenant Governor, Shri Naidu said that the LG has agreed to give a grant of Rs.5, 00,000 as a relief, to the family of deceased on behalf of Delhi administration. The Minister also spoke to Municipal commissioner of North West Delhi and asked him to provide employment to the spouse of the deceased driver, as per norms. Municipal Commissioner promised to give a temporary job, Shri Naidu added.
Earlier in the day, the Minister expressed grief over the whole incident and tweeted, “Sad that an e-rickshaw driver was beaten to death for stopping 2 people from urinating in public in Delhi. He was promoting Swachh Bharat.” He has also spoken to Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and asked him to take “strongest action possible” against the culprits.
Shri Naidu visited the place of incident and said that the Sulabh Shauchalaya was barely few metres away from it.
