New Delhi: On the occasion of the International Women Day, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is organizing a conference on ‘Women and Sports in India on 8th March 2017. The daylong conference will deliberate upon various issues for encouraging more and more women to take up sports.
The conference will be inaugurated by the Minister of state (I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Vijay Goel and several top women sports personalities are expected to participate in the discussions.
The objective of this conference is to discuss various issues that women athletes or coaches face in the field of sports and to further improve upon them. Among other issues, the discussion will focus on the following :
- Creation of safe spaces for girls athletes and women coaches
- Zero tolerance towards sexual harassment in sports complex
- Inclusion of gender sensitization modules in coach training modules
- Women representation in sports institutions, federations and other sports bodies
- Gender parity in terms of support to women athletes
