Dehradun: Urban Development, Housing, Rajiv Gandhi Urban Housing Scheme, Census, Reorganisation & Elections Minister Madan Kaushik during a workshop on “13th Regional Workshop on Star Rating of Garbage Free Cities” to increase the capacity of urban civic bodies held at Hotel in Dehradun, said that instead of working in government mode in sanitation and cleanliness areas, the officers should work under mission mode.
He said that a change was visible among the citizens towards cleanliness due to which the state has achieved a big target in the direction of cleanliness and hygiene. Speaking about Haldwani, he said that the city has become a role model in the field of cleanliness. Apart from this, Tehri district has also received a good ranking in the country in field of cleanliness but due to inadequate documentation the achievements have not been displayed properly and hence it was important to document the achievements in the field of cleanliness and hygiene.
Kaushik said there is no shortage of funds for sanitation in the municipal body.
He directed the secretary urban department to investigate such executive officers, who have not spent money for salary and sanitation, contrary to the government order in this regard. He said that the nullahs and roads should be constructed through different agencies. Secretary Urban Development Department said that today city has become an engine of development for any country and it was important to strengthen the urban engine for development. He said that the sanitation was an important index for development. He said that in ODF, the state has achieved its target but we have to maintain the awareness level continuously.
The minister hoped that the state after receiving the ODF status, the local bodies of the state will perform well towards developing garbage free city movement of the union government. He said that previously Prime Minister on Independence Day had resolved to celebrate the year as Sankalp Parv and had initiated to carry out ‘Sankalp Sey Siddhi’ campaign, where all citizens were appealed to resolve to make new India. Let us resolve to make the state that has Ganga and Yamuna rivers clean, beautiful and garbage free.
Vinod Kumar Jindal, representative of the Government of India, Joint Secretary & Director National Mission, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Secretary Urban Development, Director Urban Development and all officers of the Directorate and Commissioners were present on the occasion.
