Swachhta Pakhwada celebrated successfully across the country by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas

New Delhi: Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), its attached offices and Oil & Gas CPSEs under the administrative control of MoPNG celebrated Swachhta Pakhwada fortnight with full zeal and enthusiasm from 01stto15th July, 2018. The main theme of MoPNG initiatives in this Pakhwada were “Innovation” and “Sustainability”.

A kick-off meeting to review the Swachhta Pakhwada preparedness of MoPNG, its attached offices and CPSEs under administrative control of MoPNG was held under chairmanship of Secretary (PNG) on 20.06.2018 in which all Oil & Gas CPSEs/attached offices were advised to move beyond symbolism and go to the next level in the implementation of Swachhta Pakhwada.

Under Swachhta Pakhwada, a pledge was administered by Secretary (PNG), Dr M.M. Kutty for creating awareness towards importance of cleanliness at the workplace to the Officers and staff of the Ministry on 02.07.2018.  Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhanled a cleaning drive in Satyanagar, Bharatpur and Khandagiri areas of Bhubaneswar on 13.07.2018. These areas have been adopted by Indian Oil and will be kept clean on regular basis. Towards creating awareness, MoPNG organized anessay writing competition; slogan writing competition on “Meri Swachhta”; paint a poster competition and a workshop on Jute Bag making for the families of officers/staff of the Ministry.

 Prime Minister’s vision that Swachhta is everyone’s business has inspired Swachhata Pakhwada which started in April 2016 with the objective of bringing a fortnight of intense focus on the issues and practices of Swachhta by engaging Ministries, Departments & attached Offices under the Ministry.A maiden initiative of Swachhata ranking of Oil & Gas CPSEs/ attached offices was undertaken, wherein,based on their performance in Swachhta Pakhwada, rankings were finalized by aCommittee. ONGC emerged as the winner; IOCL stood second and HPCL came third. Additionally, our attached office PPAC has been adjudged in the highly recommended category.

A glimpse of the select important initiatives/activities carried out by Ministry of P&NG, attached offices &its Oil & Gas CPSEs, focusing on the theme during Swachhta Pakhwada are as under:

  • ONGC during Swachhta Pakhwada has launched / inaugurated projects for construction of total 4282 units of IHHLs / School Toilets / Community Toilets in more than 45 villages across the country.
  • A number of innovative initiatives including inter-alia Project GreenSole involving recycling of old shoes and manufacture of 5025pairs of new shoes for poor school childrenand installation of 2 units of “Ashudhhinashak” (incinerators not requiring electricity or fuel) in 118 schools in Hazira, Gujarat.Launching of solar-powered clean drinking water ATMs in Tripura, Jharkhand, Odisha and Assam having an outreach of more than 1 lakh people; collection of around 700 garbage bags under ‘Cleanathon Himalaya’sprogramme; distribution of jute bags in replacement of plastic bags to the consumers at ROs by OMCs; afforestation initiative whereby Seed Balls were dropped at designated dry, barren lands on the sides of Highways and river side with the help of tank truck drivers, were taken by up the Oil & Gas CPSEs.
  •       One of the unique features of Pakhwada was the intermixing of technology with Swachhta which gave momentum to public awareness. A QR Code campaign was launchedwhich allowed general public to register their support for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Visakhapatnam. This was carried out at various public places like Bus Stands, Railway stations, restaurants, colleges etc. QR Code has emerged as a powerful tool and an indispensable part of any virtual campaign.
  • In addition, the results of the Swachh Survekshan of 4200 Retail Outlets of the three Oil Marketing Companies which was conducted in association with Quality Council of India (QCI) across 50 cities Pan-India. The data was collected by trained assessors through a hand-held device, monitored on a real-time basis and went through three-layered quality check. In rankings, top city was Madurai for BPCL and Faridabad for HPCL and IOCL respectively.
  • Second edition of inter-refinery competition among Oil & Gas CPSEs/JVs based on Swachhta Index was launched.
  • Secretary (PNG) distributed awards to Swachhta Pakhwada and retail outlet winners onvarious Swachhta Pakhwada initiatives carried out by oil and gas fraternity on 31.07.2018.

A compendium capturing innovative activities/ initiatives undertaken during Pakhwada has been uploaded on MoPNG website. In addition, MoPNG has uploaded date wise Swachhta Pakhwada activities along with photographs on ‘Swachhta Samiksha” portal of Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation (MoDW&S), in addition to video clips, capturing innovative activities undertaken in the Swachhta Pakhwada fortnight.
