TDP MPs stage protest outside PM Modi’s residence over Andhra Pradesh special status

Uncategorized

Two days after Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs held protests to demand special category to Andhra Pradesh inside the Parliament even after the Lok Sabha was adjourned, the MPs today staged a dharna outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi.

Sloganeering with placards in hands, TDP MPs organised a sit-in agitation at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, the Prime Minister’s residence in the Capital.

All the agitators have now been detained by the police at the Tughlak Road police station.

Today’s demonstration is an extension of protests being carried out by the TDP MPs in demand for special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

On April 6, the party’s MPs, including those from the Rajya Sabha, held protests inside Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s chamber as the party’s no-confidence notice against the government was not taken up for discussion.

Similar high drama was witnessed in the Central Hall of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, April 5. TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in a tele-conferencing the same morning had asked the party’s MPs to intensify their protest in the capital on the issue.

The TDP members in the Upper House refused to leave the chamber even after the House was adjourned for the day around 2:30 pm. They were, later, marshalled out around 8:15 pm. (India Today)
