HYDERABAD: After creating a certain amount of hype over early elections to the Assembly, the ruling TRS may find themselves in double trouble politically. If the Assembly elections are held separately, the Opposition parties like the Congress, the BJP and the Telugu Desam will get more time to concentrate on Telangana which may affect TRS results.
If the TRS leadership goes back on their early elections promise it will become a weapon for Opposition parties to demoralise the TRS party cadre. If the elections are held according to schedule to the Lok Sabha and TS & AP Assemblies, the leaderships of main Opposition parties will not get much time to spare for Telangana Assembly polls.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi will have to campaign across the country and will have little time to spare for the Telangana Assembly elections. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu will also concentrate more on Andhra Pradesh than Telangana to retain the power. In the case of BJP also the national leaders will concentrate more on other states than in Telangana.
This will help TRS to win more seats as Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao is the only mass leader in the state. But if the Assembly elections are held separately this will give an opportunity to Rahul Gandhi, Chandrababu Naidu and BJP leaders to spend more time on Telangana Assembly polls. The results of the Assembly elections will have an effect on the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls also. With this in mind, the Congress and BJP will concentrate more on Telangana Assembly elections.
Regarding funds, TRS and BJP have no problem with spending funds in Assembly elections. If combined elections are held to the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies, the Congress and TD will face a fund crunch. In case of separate elections to the Telangana Assembly, both the Congress and TD are likely to spend more money. The TRS will have to spend on the Assembly elections and within four months after assembly elections it has to spend again for the Lok Sabha polls also. The MLAs may not take much interest as the elections are not theirs and funds given by the party may not be spent fully. These all are will have on the fate of TRS future. Source Deccan Chronicle
