A small village of Thumanur at Aanakatti in Coimbatore is all set to witness a brighter life as they got electricity for the first time.
The villagers were in awe and were relieved to get electricity but that was not it. Adding to their celebrations, an AIADMK MLA decided to dance with them as well.
Close to 200 tribal people live in the location and are mostly herders. This typical village was an anomaly as they received the free fan, mixer and grinder provided by J Jayalalithaa under her poll promise but had no power supply to use them.

The government claimed that it was difficult to provide power supply in the area as the village was surrounded by hills and rough terrain.
Finally, on Tuesday, the government succeeded in placing 40 street lights, transformer and initiated power supply.

The villagers were overwhelmed and relieved to get electricity and celebrated it with tribal music and dancing. Kavundanpalayam MLA VC Arukutti, well known for his dancing skills, also joined the celebrations with the villagers.
VC Arukuti had attained popularity because of his dancing skills during the RK Nagar elections as well.
