Union Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs & Sports shri Vijay Goel here today flagged off the 6th Slum Yuva Daud with Minister of state of Civil Aviation shri Jayant Sinha, Shri Parvesh Verma, MP, Cricketer Ishant Sharma and several other dignitaries. Today’s Daud started from Hari Nagar Bus Depot and ended at DDA Staff Club Janakpuri with participation of thousands of youth from Delhi slums.
Addressing the participants shri Goel said, “This is not just any other run but we are running for a better tomorrow, a New India where each youngster is a capable being and sports being one field in which we must grow big and powerful.” MoS for Civil Aviation shri Jayant Sinha said that such sporting events promote unity among youth and encourage them to take up sports and other constructive activities. Other dignitaries in their speeches hailed the Sports Ministry’s initiative of Slum Yuva Daud and called it a ‘great way” to tap young talent.
All dignitaries encouraged the youngsters to follow the path of “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat” to create a “New India”. Shri Goel also interacted with the participants via quiz contests, songs and selfies.
The Slum Yuva Daud is part of the Adopt Slum Campaign initiated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan which aims at highlighting the government’s pro-people schemes among masses. A total 11 Slum Yuva Runs have been planned out of which 6 have already been successful with mass participation. The 7th Slum Yuva Daud is scheduled for 09 July, 2017 at Tughlakabad Village Fort (to Karni Singh Shooting Range) where Olympic Medalist Wrestler Saakshi Malik & Ramesh Bhiduri MP will join the flag off ceremony.
